Spring/Summer Dress Code Struggles and Help

Brooke McCollum, Reporter

Students struggle to find clothes that fit the school’s dress code Shopping for clothes for school can be annoying. It is hard to find anything that works, for example, shorts that follow the “fingertip length” rule are hideous. Also, shirt straps must follow the three fingertip rule. There are ways to follow the dress code and still wear something fashionable. Students could wear leggings with short shorts and t-shirts under tops with thin straps. However, not everyone wants to do that. Mrs. Hammoud, West Middle School Assistant Principal, states’’I see more students following the dress code then breaking the dress code’’

First off, here are a few tips on how to wear something school appropriate and cute. Instead of wearing jeans or short shorts, just wear a spring dress. It doesn’t have to be super fancy, casual and laid back is the way to go. Don’t wear short shorts, wear light thin capris, they aren’t too hot and you can pair them with almost anything. Capri’s also come in jeans or leggings. As for the three finger rule, this is hard to get around. Shop for light tank tops with thick straps so you do not overheat.

Birkenstocks are in right now you can wear them any way you want. You can wear them with socks or no socks and you’ll be set. They are casual but comfy. Sydney Osgood, a 7th grader at West Middle School, “If you like something comfy and cute, these sandals are for you.”

Vans seem like the “thing” right now. Everywhere you look someone is wearing something Van related. This a big brand for teens right now. The main reason is because the style is cute, casual, comfy and everything you can possibly imagine in one piece of clothing.  Skylar Pado 7th grader at West Middle School States, ’’That vans are very comfy and not just that but the style is absolutely amazing.”

If you see something you love and just you can’t wear it to school, then put some work, be creative, and turn it into something that will be school appropriate.
