High jump. Ever heard of it? Do you know what it is? Well, the 2018 track season started and West Middle School is ready to win a specific event, the High Jump.

In high jump, there are two different styles of jumping. The first one is to run straight up to the bar and jump. The second is to approach the bar from the side. There are four rules for high jump: the jumper can’t go under the bar, the jumper must jump off of one foot, the jumper has to wear shoes, and finally, the jumper can’t hold the bar while jumping.

In meets, the girls’ bar is set at three feet eight inches and the boys’ bar it is set at four feet. The bar raises two inches each time. According to Mr. Wooster, Track Coach and sixth grade Social Studies Teacher, West has five girls that can high jump really well and two boys, but we need three boys and three girls to place in competitions.

The high jump is the very first event in the track meet. so feel free to come and cheer on our Bulldogs. You won’t even have to stay long!
