It’s that time of year again, summer is rolling in once more. That means it’s time to say goodbye to this year’s eighth graders.

Most of the eighth-graders have been at the school for three years now. Now it’s time to say goodbye and good luck. Jack Zelazny said, “Yes, the teachers here are very good at teaching and I get to see my friends throughout the school day.” Reagan Moran said, “I enjoyed being at West because I loved my friends.” “I am looking forward to trying out for the Salem golf team,” stated Owen Fisher eighth-grader.

We also interviewed some of the 8th-grade teachers what they thought of this year’s group of eighth-grade students, “My favorite memory always involved laughing. For some reason, one of my Classes and I got on a tangent of rap names and they all made up silly rap names for the top of their assignments…” said Mrs. Van Eeuwen.

Here are the teachers farewells for the eighth graders:

Mr. Smiley: “Although you are excited about you’re next steps, there’s probably a little bit of fear. Just know the past three years of your hard work has prepared you well for that next step.”

Mrs. Swift: “8th-grade class. it’s just been so enjoyable having you here these last three years. You have all demonstrated your passion for learning and passion for your community, [and] passion for your school. I know you guys are going to go on to High school and just change the world, that’s what we know you can do. Congratulations! Enjoy high school, college, and beyond!”

As you can tell, the eighth graders have had a big impact on West Middle School. Let’s all wish them good luck on the next chapter of their lives.
