“I think there just isn’t that much student interest in forming clubs”.   When Mr. Smiley, Principal of West Middle School told me this, it all made sense.  Students of West Middle School aren’t interested in forming clubs. Here’s my report as to what the facts of the situation are, starring Mr. Smiley.

“In high school, there are a ton of student-run clubs, in middle school, there is not really the same opportunity for student-run clubs.” Makes sense. High school students are dismissed early than kids in middle school.  Electives are also taking the place of clubs because they give students more experiences for high school, college, or making a career decision.

Still, this doesn’t mean clubs can’t be made.  There was a coloring club last year and a drama club this year.  To start a club, you can go and ask Mrs. Hammoud or Mr. Smiley. Electives are just there to widen a student’s skill set. It is also helpful to have a West teacher that will help you run and start the club.

Current clubs are the drama club, sports teams, and NJHS.  If you want to start a club, you can. They can be held after school or at lunch.
