Must Read Fantasy Books You Might Not Have Heard Of

Fantasy book recommendations.

With primetime as a class now, having a book is of the utmost importance.  You should always enjoy what you read. Here are four fantasy books you will definitely enjoy.

  1. Keeper Of The Lost Cities. “It’s about this girl who finds out she’s an elf, and she meets this boy who brings her to this elfen world, and she doesn’t know who her real parents, and there are people out to kill her,” Georgia New, a West 7th grader, explains.Being normal for Sophie Foster is what she wanted, but when does anyone get what they want?! Sophie is a Telepath and can read other people’s minds and thoughts. She suspects that’s not the only thing wrong with her. Sophie has skipped several grades, doesn’t connect with any of the high schoolers (though that might be the fact that she’s twelve and she’s smarter than some of them), and she doesn’t even look like her family! All these thoughts and fears are confirmed when a super adorable nice boy named Fitz tells her she’s an elf. Dangers and trouble lie ahead as Sophie paves her way towards a menacing future- And an evil organization who wants to kill her. Just your ordinary, run of the mill, superpowered elf in existence.

  1.  Fablehaven– “These two kids, who are honestly kinda bratty, and they go to live with their grandparent over the summer, and he has this huge backyard with a pool and stuff. And they discover that if they drink this milk, they see this magical fairy realm. And then they have adventures and stuff,” Leena Saraswat from West in 7th grade tells us. “But I don’t like that fact that it’ll never happen to me.”

Where do magical creatures go? We’ve read them in stories, but where do they go? Well, they go to the stronghold of magic, with enchanting mysteries deep within. And of course, Kendra and Seth’s grandfather happens to be taking care of that world. When a rule gets broken in Fablehaven, evil forces are released, and the siblings have to fight and unlock that courage, trust, and bravery to do what they fear the most.

  1. An Ember In The Ashes– “These people, and there is a war, and there is this kid who goes to a camp, and his grandfather was in it, but he doesn’t really want to be there, and he really wants to escape. And there is this other girl who is on a quest to save her brother,” Georgia New also recommends this book to fantasy and action readers.

The tyrants of the Martial Empire will stop at nothing to get what they want, and they pay with the blood of those they kill. With the Masks, the military is unstoppable. Masks are silent, quick, and deadly. When one comes to visit Laia and her family, her only choice is to run…. run straight into the rebels. After making a deal with the rebels, Laia will spy inside to academy, where Masks are trained. Elias, on the other hand, is in the academy and doesn’t want to be there. Elias and Laia will clash, and change the Empire itself.

  2.  Land Of StoriesThese twins who have a connection to another world, and they end up traveling through something to that world, and they have to save their own world and balance out the dimension,” Claire, a West 7th grader, informs us.

When Alex and Conner Bailey’s grandmother gives the twins a special fairytale book, they don’t even know what’s going to hit them- The Land of Stories, where any fairytale you can think of is real. But things aren’t so perfect in this world. Goldilocks is a wanted criminal with a bounty on her head, Red Riding Hood has her very own kingdom, and Queen Cinderella is… Pregnant? Getting back to the real world will be hard for the twins, especially with the Evil Queen hunting them down. These books are definitely a laugh out loud, thrilling adventure that’ll keep you on the edge of your seat, turning those pages to find out what happens to who! All these books come in a series, and the ones listed are the first book. These are all available at your school and public library, so, what are you waiting for!
