8th grade Washington DC field trip
November 9, 2021
The 8th graders leave for their Washington DC trip the morning of Thursday, May 5, 2022 at 5:15am and will go home Sunday, May 8th, 2022 at 10pm. The road trip with included stops will take around 10 hours, the 8th graders will stop for around 15 minutes every 2 hours to go to the bathroom and other things, the 8th graders will also stop to eat lunch. The time spent on the road will be closer to 8 hours without included stops.
The places the 8th graders will go on the trip include the Independence Hall where the constitution was signed, the US capital, the Smithsonian Institute, the Arlington National Cemetery, Mount Vernon, the Pentagon 9/11 Memorial, the Jefferson Memorial, the FDR Memorial, the MLK Memorial, they will go see the exterior of The White House, the Lincoln Memorial, the WW2 Memorial, the Korean War Memorial, the Vietnam War Memorial and they’ll take a dinner cruise.
The 8th graders will still have to follow all the regular school rules such as the dress code, however, they can use their phones during the trip to take pictures and use it on the bus. The rooms the 8th graders sleep in will have security guards to make sure nobody goes in and nobody comes out. It’s the 8th graders responsibility to know where their chaperone is at all times. The 8th graders should always be on time, as always.
The reason that the 8th graders go on the trip is because in 8th grade they start learning about US history and they’ll go to the places they are learning/learned about.
Mr. Wooster has been doing this trip for 10+ years. He says, “It’s a great trip, I wouldn’t miss it for anything.” Even last year with covid they still got to go on the trip, although they did it after school was out.
