Masks are no longer required!

After a very long two years, the Wayne County Health Department has decided to lift the face mask requirements in educational environments.

February 17, 2022, Monica L. Merritt P-CCS Superintendent of Schools emailed out to PCCS families, This is in response to the updated masking guidance from MDHHS and the declining COVID-19 infection rates in our state, Wayne County, and in our district…In accordance with this announcement, P-CCS families and staff may make individual choices regarding masking based on their own circumstances.”

There is, however, one time where masks will still be required, “MDHHS guidance for individuals who have tested positive for COVID-19 allows a return to work/school after the 5th day if there are no worsening symptoms.  The individual may return on the 6th day, but must mask to stay through Day 10.”

Transportation such as buses will not require a mask.

Washing hands is still a good idea and the use of hand sanitizer will help you stay healthy. The schools have made it known that harassing others about their choice will not be tolerated.

As always, masks will be available for adults or kids upon request and can be found in the West Main Office.

Mr. Smiley, West Principal, thinks the decision to end the mask mandate is a step forward for the school and community. Mr. Smiley said it was a pretty easy decision for him because he was fully vaccinated and had COVID at one point, so Mr. Smiley decided to not wear a mask after the mandate ended.
