Orchestra is a zero-hour class West students can take

Orchestra is an optional zero-hour class at the high school, students at West can take.
Orchestra practices every day in the Canton High School Orchestra room. But they have 3 concerts per year that usually include about three music pieces. The concerts usually take place in Salem High School’s auditorium.
The class is separated into beginner orchestra, advanced orchestra, concert orchestra, and symphony orchestra. Robert stickler, a 7th-grade orchestra student who plays the violin, explained how the different classes are separated. “Beginner is for 6th graders, advanced for 7th and 8th, concert for 9th and 10th, Symphony for 11th and 12th.”
The different instruments you have the option to play are voila, violin, cello, and string bass. Orchestra is pretty popular, having about 120 students in the middle school orchestra and about 220 in the high school orchestra, according to Robert.
The class actually has not one but two teachers. One is for the string bases and cellos, the other is for the violas and violins. “They wanted the teachers to teach the different types of instruments because they are so different.”
Robert thinks there are many great things about orchestra like getting to play your instrument every day. There have also been many studies that show the benefits of learning an instrument like improving memory and building patience and perseverance.
But Robert also mentioned that there are some downsides to orchestra. One example of this is that you have to wake up a lot earlier and either get a ride from your parent or take the high school bus.
The class actually has not one but two teachers. One is for the string bases and cellos, the other is for the violas and violins. The reason for the two teachers is so the teachers can teach the different types of instruments separately.

What if someone want to join orchestra their 8th grade year?

You can but you would be a beginner.
