Students thoughts on music

As we get older and reach the teen years, our taste in music changes and we spend a lot more time listening to music.  82 % of teens listen to music every day, for an average of two hours and five minutes.  In comparison, only  47 % of tweens listen to music every day.

Keshav Desaraju, a WMS 7th grader, listens to music on a daily basis. Vincent Badger, an 8th grader, also listens to music as much as he can everywhere he can. But Keshav and Vincent don’t just listen to music, they also play music themselves. Keshav has been playing piano since he was 6 years old. Vincent plays the drums and guitar as well.

In the US 28% of teens’ favorite musical genre is R&B and 29% is rock.  “I really like Rap and R&B,” says Keshav. Vincent has a completely different taste and really enjoys classical rock. Keshav says his favorite artist is Tyler, The Creator, but he also really likes Kanye West, Doja Cat, and Kali Uchis. “Some of my favorite artists are Rush, Led Zeppelin, and AC/DC,” says Vincent.

The Grammy’s took place on April 3rd at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The Grammys have long been named the music industry’s biggest night of the year.“I’m happy about Tyler, the Creator winning best rap album but Oliva Rodrigo won too many,” said Keshav. Vincent did not watch the Grammys at all. One award at the Grammys is album of the year. This year the award went to Jon Batiste’s “We Are”. Keshav really likes Igor by Tyler, the Creator, and Vincent’s favorite album is Moving Pictures by Rush.
