NFL free agency’s biggest winners and losers

NFL Playoffs

The NFL has been shocked after the craziness of NFL free agency. In this article, we will be going over the biggest winners and losers of free agency, as well as the biggest signings in our opinion.

Let’s start with the biggest winner; the Detroit Lions. The Lions are winners because they signed a top 3 safety in C.J. Gardener Johnson. In addition, they further bolstered their secondary by adding two of the top cornerbacks in free agency Cam Sutton and Emmanuel Mosley. While the Lions lost their best running back from 2022 Jamal Williams, they gained what some might see as a better option in David Montgomery who has not run for under 800 yards in a season in his NFL career. Overall, the Lions made some good signings to prepare them for a deep playoff run in 2023.

Now, the biggest loser is the Green Bay Packers. The Packers are losers because they had no major signings and are about to lose their franchise QB. Their best signing was probably their long snapper Matthew Orzech when they clearly had other needs like wide receivers and defense.

Some of the biggest signings were Derek Carr to the Saints, Jimmy Garoppolo to the Raiders, C.J. Gardener Johnson to the Lions, Cam Sutton to the Lions, Jamal Williams to the Saints, David Montgomery to the Lions, and Orlando Brown Jr to the Bengals. These were big because they fixed glaring holes on each team’s roster.

West student Carson, when  being asked who he thought was the best Free Agency class, said, “Detroit Lions, they greatly improved their roster.” When asked who he thought was the worst he said, “The Panthers were pretty bad and they did not do much.” When asked who was the best free agent signing, he said, “C.J. Gardener Johnson to the Lions because the Lions had one of the worst defenses in the league and they added one of the best safeties in the league.”
