Hello, all! I’m Audrey Price, and I’m here to tell you about the planet Neptune!
First, this planet may seem the coldest in our solar system, but really, that title goes to Uranus. However, Neptune is covered entirely in storms and winds raging faster than any other gas giants – more than 1,200 miles per hour!
Next, although they are invisible to most telescopes, Neptune has five rings. Like Saturn’s much more impressive ones, they are made of small bits of rock, possibly from comets and small moons that were destroyed in the Blue Planet’s winds.
Also, Neptune’s methane atmosphere is the reason for its bright blue coloring! The methane absorbs red and infrared light and gives it the delightful cerulean color it has.
Finally, Neptune isn’t always closer to the sun than Pluto, its neighboring dwarf planet. Every 248 years, Pluto’s oval-shaped orbit brings it inside Neptune’s circular one! During these 20-year periods, the dwarf planet takes Neptune’s title as the eighth planet from the sun.
Well, it seems like we’ve reached the end! Thanks for reading, and I hope you have a great day!
