Hello, all! I’m Audrey, and I’m here to tell you all about the planet Uranus.
First, Uranus was once hit by a large celestial body, far in the past, that sent its axis far off-kilter. Its axis is now at a 98-degree angle, and it looks almost vertical!
Next, more than 80% of this planet’s mass is a hot, dense fluid of ‘icy’ materials: water, methane, and ammonia. This is above Uranus’s small rocky core, which is surprisingly quite hot: near the core, it heats up to around 9000 degrees Fahrenheit!
Also, this planet gets its cyan color from large amounts of methane, much like its neighbor Neptune, which absorbs red light, but allows blues to be reflected back into space. That’s why we see it in all its blue-green glory!
Finally, although Uranus is not the farthest planet from the sun, it is the coldest! Its temperature is around -320 degrees Fahrenheit… please don’t try to go there…
Well, it looks like we’ve reached the end! Thanks for reading, and I hope you have a great day!
