As you know a vicious winter storm has recently blasted over Michigan. It caused lots of ice and snow to cover the streets and caused two “great” snow days. But are they so great? In the future they will grow in number due to climate change affecting the earth. What could climate change mean for future winters?
You may know climate change as what is causing warmer temperatures and what makes the glaciers melt, but there are many other bad things that will happen as climate change continues. It will create harsh storms due to warmer temperatures and dangerous wildfires. Is winter your favorite season? Well it’s slowly going away too.
As winters get warmer there is more moisture in the air and when it gets cold outside, yup you guessed it, the moisture will freeze. The ice and snow will batter down on us, stopping schools and endangering lives. With all the ice there will be a lot more than just one snow day.
Other than ice there will also be bad effects on the fish and wildlife. Fish will swim away in search for warmer water and warm water fish will take over hurting the existing fish. Animal and plant hibernation can be disturbed as well. All this in turn could hurt the economy.
But let’s look on the bright side. Climate change is inevitable, but there are small things you can do to help the earth. You can use less electricity by taking a break from scrolling through your phone or turn off electronics or lights you don’t need on. You can also use other means of transportation to get around, limiting harmful gasses being released into the atmosphere.
You have probably heard these things many times before, but they really do help. Besides, do you want winters to be worse?
