Is TikTok being shut down? Here’s what you need to know

TikTok, one of the most influential platforms on the internet, is facing a problem. The U.S. congress wants to ban it! But why is TikTok on the chopping block now? Will it be banned?

The FBI has taken notice of TikTok being owned by ByteDance; an organization that supposedly has ties with the Chinese government. Since the U.S. doesn’t want their information to be shared with China, they’re voting on a bill that would ban TikTok.

Charlie, who uses TikTok, says “TikTok is fun, since you can share with people.” He also talks about how TikTok being shut down will make influencers lose their job, which would be hard to recover from.

Even though it looks like it is the end for TikTok, don’t panic just yet. After the unanimous vote on the bill that would either force TikTok to be sold or banned, that then goes to the senate, where things can get more complicated. Opponents who support TikTok argue that ByteDance has not been asked to share that info, and that they store the information of the 170 million Americans that use it on US servers. However, despite the Americans info being “safe,” if Chinese authorities ordered for the information, ByteDance would be forced to hand it over. (USAtoday)
