On Friday, June 14th, Germany will host a futbol tournament including the most widely-known sport in the world, and your favorite players from your favorite countries will be competing in it. What should we expect from this “EURO 2024?”
EURO 2024 is a futbol tournament, except your favorite players will be on their national team, just like the FIFA World Cup. Instead of playing on their select club teams, players play on their national teams, if they are chosen. However, instead of seeing teams from all over the world, the Euro is short for “The European Football Championship”. This also means that only European national teams are competing.
The groups have also officially been drawn, and these will be the teams in each group for the group stages:
Group A: Germany, Scotland, Switzerland, Hungary
Group B: Spain, Croatia, Italy, Albania
Group C: Slovenia, Denmark, Serbia, England
Group D: Poland, Netherlands, Austria, France
Group E: Belgium, Slovakia, Ukraine, Romania
Group F: Türkiye, Georgia, Portugal, Czechia
A futbol (Also known as soccer) tournament in general is a tournament that starts with group stages, where you and a selection of different teams compete in a group. The top 2 best teams in each group proceed to the knockout stage, also known as the “round of sixteen.” In this part of the tournament, you get set up to play against a team. The team with the highest score proceeds, knocking out the other team. If you keep winning, you could make it to the finals, where your team faces off against the other team that made it this far. Usually, if you win a tournament, your team also earns a trophy as an achievement.
Get ready for Friday, June 14, when you will see your favorite players compete!
