The NFL draft occurred last week, and many teams made many picks that may shape their franchise for years to come.
First of these teams we will cover are the Detroit Lions. The Detroit Lions traded up to pick no. 24 to select Terrion Arnold, CB from Alabama. Also in the second round the Lions proceeded to select another great CB, Ennis Rakestraw Jr. who also has an entire arsenal of talent in him. Here’s Mr. Foley on the Lions’ draft. “I think it was a good pick, and I totally trust Brad Holmes and Dan Campbell, so if they said it was a good pick then I believe them.” We agree with Mr. Foley on this pick, so we give this pick in A+ grade. The Lions needed help in the defensive secondary, and they acquired one of the best CBs in the draft. Let’s hope this pick will improve the Lions’ secondary, and make them stronger contenders for the Lombardi trophy in 2025.
The next team we will cover are the Chicago Bears. The Bears had the no.1 pick in the draft (via Carolina), and selected Caleb Williams 1st overall, QB from USC. However, the Bears’ prosperous draft doesn’t end there. The Atlanta Falcons, known to have some of the worst 1st round draft picks in recent history, drafted Micheal Penix Jr, QB from Washington at no.8 overall. This allowed the Bears to snag Rome Odunze, WR from Washington. Rome is easily the 3rd best receiver in the draft, and he fell into the Bears’ hands, after Atlantas’ “misclick”. Here’s Mr. Foley’s opinion on the Bears’ draft. “Caleb Williams was probably the least surprising thing, I think everybody knew that they were gonna take Caleb WIlliams. I was a little surprised with Oduze but I think it was a good pick. I was surprised because they already have Keenan Allen and DJ Moore so I didn’t think they would need a receiver. I thought they needed something else, but I like the pick because Rome Odunze and Caleb WIlliams will be able to work together.” We give these two picks A gradings.
Now, we will cover the Minnesota Vikings. The Vikings traded up to no.10 overall and selected QB J.J. McCarthy from Michigan. Lions fans are sad to see this happen, as the young Michigander has fallen to the Vikings, one of the Lions’ biggest rivals. Here’s Aydin Khalil on J.J. going to Minnesota. “I’m sad.” A very short take, but one full of emotion. They also, in the first round, at the no. 17 overall pick. Turner is easily the best DE in the draft and has the ultimate potential to succeed in the NFL. Here’s Mr. Foley on the Vikings’ draft. “I loved [the Vikings’] picks. I think Turner is a beast from what I saw from him in college, and I mentioned before that I think J.J. McCarthy is going to be really good. I think he’s going to be a good pro, he does what it takes to win, and he’s got weapons around him. He has the best receiver in football in Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison is really good, T.J. Hockenson is his TE, and Aaron Jones is his RB. I think he also has a good offensive line and everything he needs.” We give the Vikings’ draft an A+ grading.
We will now cover the New York Giants. The Giants selected LSU WR Malik Nabers at no.6 overall. We think this was a good pick. You give Daniel Jones a weapon, and now you can properly evaluate the guy, now that he has an actual WR. We give this pick an A grade as Malik Nabers was the right choice. However, Mr. Foley has a separate take. “Malik Nabers has been rated as one of the best college receivers in probably 10 years. But, I think the Giants should’ve gone QB.”
Now we will cover the Atlanta Falcons with their no.8 overall pick. We think this is possibly the worst pick of the entire draft. Here’s Mr. Foley’s take on this pick. “I can’t figure it out. I’m as surprised as everyone, and I’m glad I’m not a Falcons fan because I would be really upset with that. They can’t even can’t even get out of Kirk Cousins’ contract for another two years at minimum, so I have no idea what they’re gonna do with that.” In the offseason, Atlanta decided it would be a good idea to pick up QB Kirk Cousins to a 4-year $180 million deal with $100 million guaranteed. But with the “brilliant mind” of GM Terry Fentonet, he selected college star Washington QB Micheal Penix Jr.. Now controversy and unease strikes in Atlanta. This pick can either make the Falcons’ GM look like a genius or an idiot. And because of that, we give this pick an F+.
Lastly, we have the Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles jumped in on the first round, and they selected Quinyon Mitchell at the no.22 overall pick who we believe is one of the best CBs in the draft, next to Terrion Arnold (selected by Lions). In the second round, the Eagles traded up to get the 40th overall spot and selected CB Cooper Dejean, who surprisingly went all the way down to the second round despite his talent. We give the Eagles’ draft picks an A grade.
Since there are so many picks in the draft (257), we unfortunately don’t have the time to cover all of the picks like Marvin Harrison, Drake Maye, Joe Alt, etc. However, this draft has many talented players such as Marvin Harrison Jr. and Heisman winners like Jayden Daniels. We hope to see what these players can truly do. Put in the comments what your favorite pick was, least favorite, and the best pick in the 2024 NFL draft.
