The NBA Finals are set. The flaming 3 point shooters in the Dallas Mavericks will face the NBA overlord in the Boston Celtics.
The Boston Celtics have had a walk-through of a finals run. They pummeled the Miami Heat 4-1 in the first round, then they did the same to the Cleveland Cavaliers. They then faced the Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Finals, and to pretty much nobody’s surprise, Boston swept Indiana in a decisive 4-0 series win.
The Dallas Mavericks have had a bit of a different run in terms of the powerhouses they have faced. The Mavs beat the loaded Clippers in the first round in a 4-2 series win, then beat the #1 seed OKC Thunder in a 4-2 series win as well. The Mavs then faced the Minnesota Timberwolves, who held the best defense led by 4-time Defensive-Player-of-the-Year Rudy Gobert. The Timberwolves were coming off a 4-3 series win over the defending champion Denver Nuggets, so they definitely weren’t cupcakes. Despite all of that, the Mav’s still upset the Timberwolves in the Western Finals, easily handling them in 5 games.
Now, who will win it all? Well, it’s not easy. We haven’t picked against the Mavs this entire playoffs, as they have been consistently shooting down teams in each round. Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving are one of the best offensive duos in the league, and are a pair that you should definitely look out for. The Mavs defense has improved as well. However, this Boston Celtics team is insane. They have two young superstars in Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, but also have some veterans in Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis.
Now for our prediction. Well, we split. Co-writer Aydin Khalil has Boston in 7, while main-writer TJ Kaminski has Dallas in 6. Ultimately, it all depends on if Kristaps Porzingis comes back, as Boston heavily relies on him.
Overall, this NBA Finals will be great. Two powerhouse teams battling it out on Thursday night, and then Sunday, then Wednesday, the night of the last day of school. Game 7 will be held in Boston if necessary, but it will continue to carry on until one team comes out on top. Leave your Finals predictions in the comments, and be sure to watch those games.
