The second moon that is named 2024 PT5 started on September 29 and will end on November 25.
The asteroid that is called the second moon is way too small to see according to Dogonews, “2024 PT5 is too tiny to be seen with the unaided eye or a small telescope. To put it in perspective, that is about 300,000 times smaller than our permanent Moon.” So, even if you have a telescope you will not be able to see it.
According to Dogonews, “This is not the first time Earth has had a temporary moon. Scientists have documented at least two “short captures” in the past decade. Each lasted about a week.” There is a chance that this can happen again because this is the 3rd documented temporary moon by scientists.
There are two different types of small moons and the second one is the one going on right now according to TIME, “The second, which includes the upcoming mini-moon, are dubbed “temporary captured flybys,” as they do not complete one revolution and remain in Earth’s orbit for a very short period of time.”
Even though you may not see the second moon, it still is an interesting thing that is going on in space currently.
