If you are about to have surgery and need to pick between robotic surgery or regular surgery and if you are unsure what one to pick, read on.
Robotic surgery is a very big advancement to surgery. Robotic surgery has many advantages but a few disadvantages.
Robotic surgery is where a robot does your surgery instead of a human doing it all according to Cleveland Clinic, “Robotic surgery is when your surgeon uses a robotic device to do your procedure. The device has a robotic arm that can hold small surgical instruments. Your surgeon moves the robotic arm using controllers and a viewing screen.” Even though the robot does the majority of the surgery, you still need a surgeon.
There are benefits to robotic surgery like less blood loss, shorter recovery time, and less pain. Robotic surgery has many advantages to surgeons. The robot used for surgery can fit in small spaces that a surgeon cannot. Also, the robot has a camera and a console. Robotic surgery has a very good success rate of 94%-100%. It does depend on what surgery you get and the success rate on the particular surgery but robotic surgery is usually very successful.
Now, with all types of surgery there are disadvantages. Like nerve damage, your surgeon may have to switch procedures, and VERY rare robot malfunction.
Do you think that robotic surgery will ever advance to the point where no surgeon is needed to complete the surgery?
