Tuesday, Jan. 14, was Mr. Darren’s, the custodian, last day at West. Both the students and staff will miss him. He would always brighten people’s day.
We interviewed Mr. Darren, and when asked why he is leaving West he responded, “For a better opportunity to support my family.” When asked what he likes most about West he said, “The people, from the principal on down… I’ve had a real good time here at West.”
The West community will miss Mr. Darren. You could always count on him to say, with a smile on his face, “Hello, how are you doing?” He was known for his fist bumps and for making a positive impact on West kids’ school day.

I will miss him. He was always there when I needed someone to talk to. Our conversations could range from deep philosophical debates to silly jokes that made us laugh for hours. It’s hard to think about not having him around anymore. The memories we created together are treasures I’ll hold onto forever.
His support during tough times meant the world to me. I could always count on him to lift my spirits. We shared so much, from adventures to quiet evenings in. Every moment spent together was special. It’s incredible how one person can have such a significant impact on your life.
Even in silence, his presence brought me comfort. I will cherish the lessons he taught me and the love he showed. Sometimes, I catch myself reaching for my phone to share something funny with him. The small things, like our inside jokes, will be what I miss the most. I hope he knows how much he meant to me.
As I navigate life without him, I’ll carry his memory in my heart. Though he may be gone, his influence will stay with me always. I will miss him, but I’ll also celebrate the time we had together.

As the final bell rang, the familiar sound of laughter and chatter faded away, leaving behind a quiet school building that held countless memories. Mr. Thompson, the beloved janitor, gathered his things with a bittersweet smile. For years, he had not only cleaned the classrooms and hallways but also shared kind words and encouragement with students and staff alike. His gentle demeanor and infectious laughter had made him a cherished figure in the school community. However, a better opportunity awaited him—a position in a local community center where he could directly impact even more lives. As he took one last look around, he felt a mix of sadness and excitement, knowing that while he was leaving behind a place he loved, he was stepping into a new chapter filled with possibilities.
