Did you hear the sirens sounding on March 19th at school? Did you know this week is Severe Weather Awareness Week in Michigan and the rest of the country?
State officials decided to do a whole state tornado drill as a part of this awareness, which you heard at 1:00 PM on Wednesday. Tornadoes are most common in the spring and summer months, especially around April to August. Ironically, following the tornado drill Wednesday afternoon, a Public Safety Alert was issued in our area indicating the chance for severe storms and a possible weak tornado.
It is important to know the difference between a tornado Watch and a tornado Warning. A Watch means conditions exist for a tornado to develop. A Warning means a tornado has been sighted or indicated by weather radar. Wednesday’s Alert was a great way to emphasize the importance of Severe Weather Awareness Week.
