As a new soccer referee, I think it is an amazing way to make some quick money! It’s also a super good way to stay in shape over summer. Some people can be worried about the parents or coaches. In my first game, I was nervous, but it wasn’t bad if you just ignore them. Even if they shout at you, just don’t acknowledge them.
If you are an assistant referee, you can can earn $20-40$ per game! But if you are a center referee, you can earn $40-100$ per game! I would suggest being an assistant referee to start, but once you get better and understand the rules better, you can start being a center referee. As an assistant referee, you have to stay focused on the game and not the other people around you.
One main problem is transportation. You need your mom, dad, or even a sibling to drive you because you aren’t old enough. This can limit how many games you can accept due to parents’ busy schedules. Unless the field is close enough for you to ride a bike there, it’s a big/annoying problem. Aside from that parents, are the main way you get to referee. Parents will be driving you to almost every game. So make sure you thank them!
The biggest benefit of refereeing is getting the opportunity to understand the game better, improve your skills, and increase your fitness level. It’s crazy to think you can get paid for just telling people what happened.
There are two ways you are paid. You can either get paid with cash or get paid by having the money put into your referee account. The second way takes longer to receive the money, but you still get the money, which is great. Being a soccer ref is an awesome job!
