Oreo has lots of unusual and unique flavors and the company has worked with many famous people in the past and present.
In its over 100 year history, Oreo has released more than 85 unique and interesting flavors. Flavors include cherry cola, kettle corn, marshmallow moon, cookie dough, gingerbread, and pumpkin spice.
In addition to their common and limited edition flavors, they have done collaborations with celebrities and franchises over the years. A recent Oreo release is one with Selena Gomez, custom-made of a layer of chocolate and cinnamon creme, that’s mixed with sweetened condensed milk and sprinkled with cinnamon sugar. The filling is sandwiched between two chocolate-cinnamon flavored cookies. Selena’s cookie was inspired by her favorite drink horchata, a cold drink made from ground nuts and flavored with cinnamon.
Other collabs include Game of Thrones, Star Wars, Post Malone, and Lady Gaga.
The now loved cookie was originally an imitation of the lesser known Hydrox cookie. The Hydrox came out in 1908 as the first chocolate sandwich cookie. The Oreo was released in 1912, only 4 years after. Oreo used successful marketing and storytelling to beat out its competitor. The infamous twist, lick, and dunk marketing made the Oreo an experience that friends and family could share. Hydrox, with its unpleasant cleaning product sounding name, was unable to market the same sense of happiness and nostalgia that Oreo was so successful in.
