SmartPass is a new system at West Middle School, but many students dislike it. Here’s why.
As most know, SmartPass is the new system to limit and monitor student activity in the hallways. You get 2 passes every day, with a 90-minute timer starting when you use one, making it so you cannot use another pass until the timer is over. There are also limits on the time you can be out of the room, and if you go past these limits, you could get in trouble if your tardy is left unexcused.
From the interviews we have done, West Middle School staff and teachers like this system, but students have their own opinions on Smartpass. Many students have said that Smartpass is unnecessary, with some saying that the hallpass system was good as it was, and we didn’t need a change. Others say that the system is too strict for various reasons. Some say they don’t have enough passes, or that they don’t get enough time to use the bathroom. Staff say that SmartPass is great for tracking and monitoring where and for how long students are out of the room, but students say it is unnecessary and too strict. What do you think about SmartPass?
