There is a new PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) reward system at West Middle School.
Most people still don’t know about the system, so we’re here to tell you.
Green cards are out and points are in! This system is new for both students and teachers.
The PBIS system will be a website and will be rolled out in October. We’re going to be rewarding those students who usually don’t get the recognition.” Hopefully, all students will be recognized for good behavior, not just some students once in awhile. This PBIS system will be quite different from the green cards, but it will encourage more positive behavior and help students engage a different part of their brain.
The way the PBIS points work is that teachers will assign points digitally through their devices. In the classroom, students will get notified by their devices when they are awarded points.
Students are able to use those points in the classroom stores. Some stores will have things like pencils, homework passes, maybe an extra bathroom pass, and Jolly Ranchers.
If you’re not following the rules, students can get what is known as a “minor”. The “minor” automatically informs your parents and Mr. Calzone.
