We line up.
I hear,
On your mark,
Get set,
GO.
and we’re off.
Girls sprint ahead
I keep a good fast pace.
As I run,
I hear the soft grass,
move as feet like giants stomp on them.
I go around on bend,
then another,
and another
as I pass girls,
I hear their soft panting.
I round another bend and pass a line of parents.
I hear my name,
My dad is cheering me on,
“Come on Sylvia! Get after it!”
I smile.
I pass another girl and see,
And hear her,
“Go Sylvia, Go!” my grandma yells.
I keep on smiling,
Mrs Bazzi takes my picture.
I’m close to finishing my first mile.
I see Claire and her parents cheering me on too!
I see my sister.
She is screaming at me.
“Run, Run!”
I laugh in my head.
I keep on running.
I round the corner and see Coach Wells.
I run past him.
I can’t see my mom,
But I know she is there,
I hear her,
she is cheering for me,
“Go Punnkin!”
I finish the first mile,
and repeat it all over again.
I pass girls,
I hear my dad cheering me on,
I hear my Grandma cheering,
I hear all of my friends cheering,
I round the last corner.
My sister is running along with me,
I sprint.
I hear,
My mom,
Dad,
Sister,
Grandma,
Friends,
And coaches,
Cheering me on.
I cross the finish line,
My heart is pounding,
I’m as weak as a baby kitten that was just born.
Then,
My mom tells me my time
17:35
I shaved 1 minute off of my time from last year.
My best time yet.
