Good news, lunch and breakfast will continue to be free for the 2025-2026 school year!
Governor Whitmer feels strongly that it’s important to make lunches free because she wants everybody to be able to have a lunch and breakfast, and not having to worry about paying, because not everybody can afford breakfast and lunch. This program ensures that no matter who you are or where you live, you will have breakfast and lunch.
There was uncertainty about what the state’s budget would be, which caused districts to stop offering free lunch. The new budget includes over “$200 million to fund the universal meals programs, ensuring no-cost meals continue for all Pre-12 school students.” Students do still have to pay for snacks.
I feel happy about this because now we don’t have to worry about bringing money every day, and if I forget my lunch, II can just get the lunch for free.
Now, kids do not need to feel embarrassed, we all have a free lunch.
