Tuesday, April 24, is the start of the 2018 track season. If you are interested in running in the upcoming season, you can sign up on Google Classroom with the code elkh2gt. Practices are held here at West after school.

On Google Classroom, you can find the sign-up and pre-season workouts to get you ready for track. For those of you who don’t know, the new track coaches are Mr. Wooster, Mr. Durocher, Mr. Majszak, and Mrs. Medley. When Mr. Majsak is done coaching, Mrs. Medley will be filling in for him. Some track events include, the shot put, the long jump, the 100 hurdle relay, and long distance. You can find more specific information on google classroom.

We interviewed Mr. Wooster, sixth grade Social Studies teacher and new track coach at West Middle School, and asked him some questions about the upcoming track season. Mr. Wooster said, “Kids run track for three reasons, one, there are competitive runners that join to beat other schools. Two, to get in shape, and three, to socialize and have fun with friends.” When we asked Mr. Wooster why he became a track coach, he said, “I was a track coach a while ago but stopped because my kids were getting older.” He said he joined again because he had fun and he enjoys coaching. Mr. Wooster said the track coaches place kids into events by talent. He said, “I like to ask what they want to do first.”

For more information about the upcoming track season, sign on to google classroom. From what we’ve heard, track is a lot of fun and a great opportunity for runners. If you want to sign up, you better do it soon, the first practice is just around the corner.
