More Than Pennies Raised for Patients

Martin Dobrowolski and Myles Cionca

The 2018 March Pennies for Patients fundraiser at West Middle School was a great success!  West was raising money for patients with blood cancer (Leukemia) and Lymphoma. The money will go to scientists for funding for research to find a cure for the disease and for people in the Metro Detroit area to pay for patient care.

We interviewed Mrs. Langenderfer, a teacher in West Middle School and asked some questions. Mrs. Langenderfer stated, “We didn’t count up all the money yet.”  However, she still said that about $4,000 was donated online. Mrs. Langenderfer informed us that the profits also go to Lymphoma education.  West has been participating in this fundraiser for the past five years.

“What was the most donated currency out of pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, dollar bills, credit cards, and checks?” Mrs. Langenderfer said, “People donated mostly online using credit cards. The second was either dollars or quarters.”

West did a great job fundraising. Our students and families surpassed what we thought we were going to make. You can feel proud to be a Bulldog because this was all for an amazing cause.
