If you didn’t know, at the 2022 Oscars, Will Smith got out of his seat and slapped Chris rock. It seems like everyone has given their opinion on the conflict, but what do West students think?

“I don’t think that Will Smith slapping Chris Rock was justified because it’s just not the right thing to do in that situation. It is immature and irresponsible,” Blake Pepper, a West 7th grader said. “

But, Keshav Desaraju, West 7th grader also thinks, “They are both at fault really because Chris rock made a bad joke about his wife’s alopecia and will Smith basically assaulted him“.

Tomas Yoder, a West sixth-grader said that ” I think it would mostly be Chris rock because he had made a bad joke about his wife’s disease but Will Smith also contributed to the violence and that wasn’t good”.

In my opinion, I think that they are both at fault because Chris Rock made an insensitive comment on Jayda Pickett Smith, Will Smith’s wife, but how Will Smith responded was not good because violence does not solve problems.
