Merry Christmas! How do different countries celebrate Christmas?

We all know USA traditions, one of the most important traditions is a family dinner on Сhristmas every December 24th. On Christmas people decorate their houses inside and outside to create a beautiful Christmas atmosphere. The most important decoration is a Christmas tree.

In Ukraine Christmas is also on December 25th. Ukrainians eat a traditional dish called kytya. On the table, there have to be 12 dishes that symbolize the 12 months of the year. Ukrainians don’t usually decorate houses on the outside, but if they want to they can do a lot of decoration inside. In Ukraine, a Christmas tree is also the main decoration.

In Germany, Christmas is a family holiday. People sit with their families and give presents to each other, also they go to fairs and bazaars. In Germany, people weave wreaths on Christmas for luck in the new year.  For New Year’s Eve, the house has to be perfectly clean because Germans think that how you start the year is how you will spend it. German traditions also include a Christmas tree and a lot of sweet food.

In Japan, people decorate not only houses but even playgrounds are also decorated. People call the Christmas tree- cadomazu that translates as pine at the door. In Japan, people decorate Christmas trees with fern and mandarine branches. It is also a family holiday but Japanese people spend it with friends and family. There is a tradition to tell your wish to god in church.
