Last school year, fidget spinners could be seen in the hands of kids everywhere at West. Yet, this year they make a rare appearance in classrooms. Why is that so?

It’s hard to explain why the fidget spinner became such a fad. However, we do know that once everyone has that fad it doesn’t become a trend anymore. According to Nymag.com, The Science Of Us states, “Once everyone has tried that idea or owns that thing, it loses its appeal.” That starts the decline in popularity.

In April of 2017, the fidget spinner was being sold in stores. Five West students, who bought a fidget spinner were asked if they still use them today.  None of these students use their spinners anymore. “It is a waste of money and not fun,”  says Kyle Pierson, a student in 7th grade.

West teacher, Lauren Medley, discusses other fads she has observed at WMS, “Kendamas, dabbing, bottle flipping, leggings, and slime.” These trends have also made a rapid climb in popularity then came down fast. Kyle Pierson, WMS 7th grader, states, “It is a waste of time it is useless and I don’t think they are fun.” We will let you decide!
