Only two more weeks until Winter Break!!!!!! Some things people do over winter break are not what you expect. People celebrate different holidays that you may not have heard of before.

Most students at West celebrate Christmas, but some kids don’t. Some people celebrate a Jewish holiday called Hanukkah. Hanukkah lasts for nine days. Every night, Jewish families light a candle on a Menorah. Every day, children will get one present over the nine days. Whereas Christmas lasts for one day and presents are usually only given on that day.

Lots of people will go outside and play in the snow over break. Some invite their friends to go outside with them. They build snowmen, have snowball fights, or even go sledding. Then when they are done playing outside, they like to come into a warm house and drink hot chocolate.

Many families come together over Winter break. Meaning some travel to various places. Kyle Pierson, a 7th grader at West, says he is going to Florida. Suprita Nagali, a 7th grader at West, says, “I go somewhere over every winter break. I am going to Mexico.”

When families come together they usually have a special meal. Like Mira Vulaj, a 7th grader at West, eats Albanian food. She eats bean soup, steak, and potatoes on Christmas Eve. Bella Blake, a 7th grader at West, eats American food, like steak and asparagus.

Whatever you’re doing, celebrating or not celebrating over Winter break, make the most of it!
