Attention fellow Bulldogs! I am happy to announce that West Middle School Cross Country team won the cross country league meet last week on Tuesday, October 16, 2018! This event took place at Cass Benton Park in Northville. This is truly breathtaking news to many of the cross country runners, considering how nervous many of us were. Maya Mitts reported that she was very nervous but ready to run.

Shea Douglas, who ran a 9:20 for her 1.5-mile race, took first place in the sixth-grade girl’s race, followed by Sydney Meyer, Georgia Bird, and Emily Fagerman.

Luke Osburn, who ran an 8:45 for the 1.5-mile race, took 1st in the sixth-grade boy’s race. He was followed by Owen Christensen and Adam Dicken.

Jack Leyden finished in first place for the seventh and eighth-grade boys race! He was quickly followed by Sean Byrnes and Adam Andrews. All three boys were point scores for the West Team. Jack Leyden finally got his chance in the spotlight by pushing and running faster than his teammate, Sean Byrnes, who normally finished first for West.

Nara Schley from Discovery took first place for 7th and 8th-grade girls with a time of 12:56.  The top three girls for West were Ellie Newman, who took second place, Cara Newman, who took the third place, and Claire Hammill, who took fifth place! This was an exciting race because both the first and second place winners are sisters. Cara, who finished third, but normally beats her younger sister Ellie, improved her best time by nine seconds. Ellie improved her time by nearly 40 seconds!

Overall, The league meet was very important to most of the cross country runners and many were so happy because they ran their fastest times! BE BOLD! BE BRAVE! BE A BULLDOG!
