One of the most exciting times of the year just happened. The NBA trade deadline! The February 9th trade deadline had some of the craziest trades in NBA history. Here are some of the insane trades.

On January 23rd, 2023 the LA Lakers traded Kendrick Nunn and 3 second round picks for Rui Hachimura. We think that this is a good trade for the Lakers because Rui is a very good defender and a decent 3 point shooter. We think that this is a bad trade for the wizards because they just lost Rui for basically nothing.

On February 5th, 2023 the Dallas Mavericks traded Spencer Dinwiddie, Dorian Finney-Smith, a first round pick, and 2 second round picks to the Brooklyn Nets for Kyrie Irving and Markieff Morris. We think this is an AMAZING trade for the Mavericks because Kyrie fits perfectly next to Luka Doncic. We think this was a good trade for the Nets because they got a lot of value for two players.

On February 8th, 2023 the LA Lakers traded away washed superstar Russell Westbrook in a 3 team deal with the Jazz and Timberwolves. In return, they got a package of D’Angelo Russell,Jarred Vanderbilt, and Malik Beasley. The Timberwolves received Mike Conley and 3 second round picks. The Jazz got Russell Westbrook, 2 other players, and a Lakers first round pick. We think this was a perfect trade for the Lakers because they got rid of Russ and got very good role players in return. We think that this is an okay trade for the Jazz because they get Russell Westbrook who has a chance to bounce back from his slump. Part of the reason he was in a slump was because of the Lakers scheme. And the Timberwolves made a bad decision because they gave up a lot of role players for almost nothing.

On February 8th, 2023 the Phoenix Suns traded  Mikal Bridges, Cameron Johnson, Jae Crowder, Four first-round picks, and 2028 pick swap  with the Brooklyn Nets for NBA All-Star Kevin Durant and TJ Warren. We think this is an AMAZING trade for the Suns to get KD and not lose any star players. They did lose a lot of depth, but now their starting five is one of the best in the NBA. We think this is decent trade for the Nets because now they have a lot of depth, but they now have no star players.

On February 9th, 2023 the Pistons, Hawks, Warriors, and Trailblazers made a 4 team trade. The Pistons received the former number 2 overall pick in James Wiseman. The Hawks received Saddiq Bey. The Blazers received 5 second round picks from the Hawks, and the Warriors received Gary Payton II. We think that it was a great trade for the Hawks and Warriors because they got very good role players with great potential. We think that it was an okay trade for the Blazers because they got a lot of value through picks, but Gary Payton II is a very good role player. This is a terrible trade for the Pistons. James Wiseman won’t get a lot of playing time and Saddiq Bey was a very good big man that they used a lot.

West 7th grader, Lucas, states his opinion about the trade, “It was one of the greatest trade deadlines in recent memory. My favorite trade is the KD trade because he is making another super team. My least favorite trade was the Saddiq Bey trade. I think Dallas won the trade deadline because they got another All-Star to play with Luka. I also think that the Lakers had a good deadline because they got rid of Russell Westbrook.”
