Crocheting is Fun- You’ll Never Wanna Be Done!

Annalyse Wallace, Writer

A lot of people struggle to find a good hobby. Some, like myself, don’t like to play sports and have to find other ways to spend my time. But, have you ever tried crocheting?

People have been crocheting since the early 1900s, and it’s a pretty fun hobby. You can make hats, bags, socks, room decor… the list goes on! Also, it’s a pretty good way to make money if you are really skilled at it. There are almost 2 MILLION crochet hits from Etsy businesses! It is also a good way to make quick and easy presents for somebody. Talking from experience, I have made a few small things for my family for special occasions.

But, people have mixed feelings about it. Some say, “it’s just too hard!” or, “I don’t wanna waste my time on something like that.” But I can promise you that with some patience and help, you’ll be the best crocheter ever! (Well, maybe not the best, but almost.) And, I even got in an interview with one West student who can crochet to tell you about their favorite project, and even some tips!

First, I interviewed West 7th grader, Shealyn Setter. “[My favorite project was] probably a tote bag I crocheted once, it was a pink one. It was a difficult project, but it was worth it.” She also shared a tip. “Be patient. I feel like a lot of people are always stressed to learn how to make big projects from the start, but you have to be patient when learning, it takes a while.”

My tip is to definitely be ready to make mistakes. Mistakes are how you get better, so don’t give up if you make mistakes while crocheting. Just try and find out what the problem is, fix it, and keep that new piece of information in your mind for later. I hope that you take this article into consideration, and if you do, happy crocheting!
