Need to breathe? Get a book and read!

Do you like to read? If not, you are still required to read for a class such as NJHS or ELA. If you need a book, visit the library! There are 1,000 books to choose from.
You may not be interested in every genre and that’s okay because there’s a variety of genres in the library. Mrs. Davies is the librarian and she has dealt with multiple requests and knows exactly what the students of West would enjoy reading.
Below you will find books that Mrs. Davies requests that vary through multiple topics.
The first book Mrs. Davies recommended is for 6th graders. “I picked out the book It’s the end of the world and I am in my bathing suit by Justin Reynolds. He is one of my favorite middle grade authors. This book follows main character Eddie who is trying to not do his laundry for the rest of the summer since he hates doing laundry. Eddie ends up getting to the point where he needs to do laundry and is wearing his bathing suit since all his clothes are dirty. Then all of a sudden all the power in the entire community shuts off and they are trying to figure out what is happening, and everyone is spreading rumors that the world is ending. It is funny, sarcastic, the character building is outstanding and I also have a 6th and 7th grader and they loved this book.”
For seventh grade she picked out the book series Wisenards. “This book is really cool, it is a basketball book and the front cover actually feels like a basketball. This book is about fantasy basketball and part of the appeal of this book is that it was created by Kobe Bryant. This book follows a group of guys who are trying out for a basketball team but there are also magic and fantasy elements to it. It is like a sports book but definitely has that Kobe Bryant feel. “
This book she recommends for mostly 8th graders. “ This book is called Legendborn, it is by Tracy Deonn. This book blew my mind. I finished both books in about 4 days. I could not stop reading it because of how good it was. The main character goes to early college and when she gets to school and discovers all these magical things happening on the campus. She then discovers that a whole bunch of people still believe that king Arthur’s court is still alive, and doing magic. She discovers she has magic too. The main character is black and most of the people involved in the whole artherian thing are white so there is some conflict happening and definitely some issues of racism. There are a lot of battles with monsters and magical creatures and it’s so intense and keeps you on the edge of your seat.”

I love how you guys got a book suggestion for each grade. This is helpful for me because I’m almost done with my book. The book I’m reading right now is “The Fault in Our Stars”, it’s a good book for any grade who’s looking for a sad, sweet love story.
