Cheyava Falls, though not a waterfall as one might expect, could be a hotspot for possible evidence of fossilized or even existing Martian life. Cheyava Falls is actually a rock found by NASA’s Perseverance Mars rover in an ancient riverbed that has since dried up.
After taking a sample of the rock, the sample was named Sapphire Canyon and studied by NASA. NASA found potential biosignatures in the sample, which are signs that something may have originated from a lifeform. Potential biosignatures always need more information before they can be confirmed, hence the “potential” part of the name.
To conclude, this find was the closest we’ve ever come to finding life on Mars, and although it is not confirmed to have originated from living organisms, this is still a big step in discovering Mars’ history.
