While swimming in Lake Neuchâtel, Switzerland to investigate a dark patch, a group of divers swam to the bottom of the lake where the dark patch was and caught a once in a lifetime find. These divers found an assortment of Roman artifacts from a cargo that could possibly be as old as 20 AD.
This dark patch underwater was noticed by the Octopus Foundation, which sent these divers to explore it. They found multiple Roman objects from a cargo ship, with no visible shipwreck nearby. They even found some ceramic containers with traces of food in them! These objects were very well preserved in the watery depths of Lake Neuchâtel.
More than a thousand objects were collected from the lake, many of the objects are still in great condition despite their age. The way the objects were found suggests that this was a shipment for Roman soldiers and was heading to one of the Roman camps. Some other objects were also found along with the ceramic containers, which further proves the soldier theory, such as a pair of swords, a belt buckle, and a dagger.
These findings were truly amazing, and historians will most likely benefit from these findings, as we put together even more pieces of the puzzle that is history. For more details, see the link in works cited 🙂

I went to the link and I can’t get over all the objects that were at the bottom of the lake. That water must be very clean and cold to persevere those very old items. I enjoyed reading this article. Thank you.
