What’s Going On?
Middle Schoolers are struggling to find their next book to read, and reading definitely needs a comeback. Students aren’t enjoying reading and really haven’t moved on from elementary level books. Here are a few starter series that I highly recommend and enjoy as a middle schooler!
Percy Jackson and The Olympians
Percy Jackson and The Olympians by Rick Riordan is a book for ages 9 and up. Rick has made a whole universe, but just started with the first set of five: The Lightning Thief, The Sea Of Monsters, The Titans Curse, The Battle Of The Labyrinth, and The Last Olympian.
Percy Jackson and The Olympians follows the story of young 12 year old Percy into his teen years. His life is troubled with being in poverty and living in the busy city of Manhattan, New York. Percy also struggles with dyslexia and adhd, but on a serious note he keeps seeing monsters following him. People are just saying it’s his imagination but he isn’t so sure when one of his teachers evolves into one.
His troubles get even worse when he’s taken to a weird summer camp where he finds out he is a demigod. Who’s his father? Why is an ordinary boy like him so important?
If you are a fan of mythology and fantasy, this book is just right for you!

The Underland Chronicles
The Underland Chronicles is written by the same author as The Hunger Games, Suzanne Collins. Same as Percy Jackson, this series has five books: Gregor The Overlander, Gregor and The Prophecy of The Bane, Gregor and The Curse of The Warmbloods, Gregor and The Marks of Secret, and Gregor and The Code of Claw.
The Underland Chronicles similarly follows the same story as Percy Jackson. Both of them live in New York and are very poor, unlike Percy, Gregor lives with his mom, two sisters, and grandma. He’s doing laundry with his little sister Boots when she falls down the laundry shoot into a world underground. When Gregor falls in as well they get taken to a mysterious kingdom of stone and pale-erie-like people. Gregor gets claimed a warmblood and has to be sent on a quest that follows a prophecy.
I would recommend this book to people who love adventure and shorter books.

The Twilight Saga
On a different Note. A book full of vampires and super-natural occurrences is indeed Twilight By Stephenie Meyer. Twilight is again a five book series consisting of: Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, Breaking Dawn, Midnight Sun, and the optional sequel The Short Second Life Of Bree Tanner.
I know lots of people don’t like when “Twilight” is even spoken of. People say it’s cringe. In my opinion the movies are what make people think it’s cringey. The books are more complex and poetic. Twilight is about Bella Swan, a teenager who just moved to Forks Washington, going to school and meeting this inhuman man, Edward Cullen. She slowly throughout the book falls in love with him… but then she finds out he’s a vampire. I wont tell you what takes place after, you have to read it to find out.
I recommend this book to people who are interested in vampires and super-natural topics.
