Twenty-three-year-old Shannon Williams and forty-year-old Amy Hayes are the new eighth-grade English language arts teachers here at West Middle School. Both teachers were hired this summer.

Mrs. Williams, new 8th grade ELA teacher.

Ms. Williams decided that she would like to work at West because she used to be a substitute teacher here. She loved the environment at West and that we are a community. She feels that the people here are supportive and friends. She met Mrs. Hammoud, our vice principal, at the MSU job fair and Mrs. Hammoud introduced her to West and the Plymouth-Canton Community Schools.

Ms. Williams went to Michigan State University for college. She first started student teaching around three years ago.  She has always had a passion to teach. Ms. Williams said, “A teacher has to be passionate about what they do or, they will go insane.” She loves the connection that she has with her students.

Ms. Williams has a lot of younger cousins and she took care of them and mentored them growing up.  She said, “Mentoring my younger cousins molded me into who I am today.” Ms. Williams plays tennis and golf outside of school. She has two cats and a dog that are her “fur babies.”

Our other new addition is Mrs. Hayes. Mrs. Hayes she was an elementary teacher at Smith Elementary in Plymouth-Canton. She felt she needed a change. She chose West because a lot of her students from Smith went here.

Mrs. Hayes, new 8th grade ELA teacher.

Mrs. Hayes started teaching in January of 2001. She started teaching because she loves kids. She has loved kids ever sence she started babysitting back when she was a teenager. She has always had a passion to teach. Mrs. Hayes went to Central Michigan University and got her master’s degree from Marygrove College.

Mrs. Hayes has two sons named Ben and Nick. She has been happily married to her husband Marc for fifteen years. She got married in 2003. She loves to walk her dog Rocky in Downtown, Plymouth. She loves it here at West and she is happy she made the switch.

We are happy to have these two fabulous additions to our staff. Mrs. Hayes and Mrs. Williams, Welcome to our team!
