Eugene Brown, Reporter

This Go-kart Dragon racing team has a crazy season with spins, flips, and wins. At the beginning of the season, there was a huge wreck involving 16 go-karts. The Dragon go-kart team consists of Eugene Brown (me) and Ryan Dungey and the crewmates.  Ryan and I are the drivers. The crewmates are part of the pit crew and they work on the karts.

During the crash, I experience a hard hit into the wall and the air was knocked out of me.  In another race, there was a huge fire. Ryan’s go-kart caught on fire. This is definitely a dangerous sport.

There were definitely some positives to our season. Both Ryan and I won at the Peak AntiFree Championship. I, Eugene, came in first and Ryan came in third.

Ryan reflected on the crash, “After the wreck my arm was in pain.” His dad was his role model for racing. Ryan’s dad who was a race car driver himself. He is having a sponsorship issue, so I am helping him out with that. Before go-kart racing. Ryan played football and basketball. Last go-kart season he scored one win.

Another incident was what the teammates like to call the “orange” incident. My engine exploded, with gasoline in the air it ignited a fire that put the whole kart in flames. Next, I experienced two catch fence wrecks. One happened in Grand Rapids with the track being really wind, and the second one happened in Silver Lake. There was also the Flat Rock wreck, where I broke my arm after hitting a concrete wall. Lastly, at the Detroit Street track, I ended up throwing my helmet across the track at another driver because he spun me.

This season was wild with wrecks, wins, and a championship under our belt.
