Have you heard Mr. Calzone talk about the West swimming team every morning on the announcements? Mr. Calzone always talks about how talented our West swimmers are.
The West Swim team has been through great losses and even bigger wins, but for a team as small as they are, they have overcome all odds.
The team has fewer swimmers than last year, capping out at 16 swimmers. Even though their small size, the team should not be reckoned with.
Mrs.VanEeuwen states, “That the team is very strong and are great swimmers.”
April 23, 2024, is the district’s league meet. The team has been training for this entire season just a couple of days away. This meet is going to be their toughest competition yet. Every school team participates in a huge meet and race against each other. The swimmers have the choice of swimming backstroke, freestyle, butterfly, breaststroke, or IMs.
The rules of swimming backstroke are you must be on your back kicking your legs up and down. Your arms must move in a circle motion in and out of the water. Ending the race you must touch the wall on your back.
The rules of freestyle are you must swim on your stomach with your legs kicking in straight motions. Your arms are doing circles in and out of the water. You must finish on your front.
The rules of butterfly are you must swim on your front. Your legs must dolphin kick you out of the water while your arms push the water back propelling you forward. You must finish the race by touching the wall with 2 hands
The rules of breaststroke are you must swim on your front. Your legs must be pulled into your body and kicked out to the side, while your hands pull water into your body, as you end your kick.
The rules of IMS are you have to use all of the swimming strokes in order from butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, and freestyle.
Wish the West team good luck at the League Meet!
