The W.M.S. talent show is coming! On Wednesday, February 27, 2019, in the West cafeteria, students will have the opportunity to showcase their many talents. Only $5 to watch, the talent show allows all students, regardless of age, gender, or skill level to celebrate themselves and others.

The W.M.S. talent show embraces all students and helps them grow along with their talents. “I think that any opportunity to perform publicly really helps [students] grow,” Says Ms. Grady, who has been helping to run the talent show for about 5 years. “It gives you confidence, it helps to really put yourself out there. It takes a lot of courage to do that.”

To join the talent show, students go through quite a process. First, they fill out an application. “If they sing they have to have lyrics [on the application], things like that,” states Mrs. Hedge, who has been helping to run the talent show for over 13 years. After that, they come to try-outs, and students receive letters home telling them if they made the talent show or not. Then, a rehearsal is held a week after that. Another week after is the dress rehearsal and the talent show all in the same day.

Everyone who participates in the talent show says it’s an occasion to remember. Mrs. Hedge and Ms. Grady both think of the talent show as a “Highlight to my year.” Most students who performed in the talent show come back to perform for the rest of their time in middle school.

The W.M.S. talent show has an efficient and exciting schedule. “Usually between 20-25 acts, it takes about an hour and a half to two hours,” Says Mrs. Hedge. “Each of the different acts performs. We usually have an MC who comes on and introduces each act.” All West Middle School Students can watch the talent show, as well as participate. It costs only $5 to watch in the W.M.S. cafeteria.

The talent show is an excellent way for all of West Middle School to be proud of themselves. With the help of Mrs. Hedge, Ms. Grady, and the West students who participate, the 2019 talent show is going to be extraordinary. We hope to see you there!
