Hello, all! I’m Audrey, and I’m here to tell you all about some carnivorous plants.
Carnivorous plants are a kind of plant that gobbles up bugs or small animals and eats them. In this article, I’ll be telling you about some of these!
The first plant I’ll introduce is the sundew. These are small insectivores that have tentacle-like leaves, which in turn have small red stalks on them. These stalks lure the sundew’s prey in, and when it lands on the stalks, it sticks and the sundew is able to eat it. Cool.
The second type of plant is the Nepenthes Attenboroughii. Yeah, I know, it’s impossible to say, but it’s basically a kind of pitcher plant. But not just any pitcher plant: this one is the largest of them all. It can grow to nearly 5 feet tall – as tall as your average ten-year-old! These plants eat rodents and other small animals, catching them with a sweet smell from inside the pitcher part of the plant. When the animal climbs into the pitcher to get to the source of the scent, it falls in and is digested.
The last type of plant I’m talking about is the bladderwort. Being an aquatic plant, it eats insects, crayfish, and even small tadpoles. If one of these triggers one of the hairs on the outside of the plant, one of the “bladders” opens and a rush of water drags the prey inside. Eeesh!
Well, it looks like we’ve reached the end! Thanks for reading, and I hope you have a great day!
